Zygote intrafallopian transfer (ZIFT) is a highly specialized form of ART involving laparoscopic transfer of day-1 embryos into the fallopian tubes

Zygote Intrafallopian Transfer (ZIFT)

Similar to a GIFT procedure, in a ZIFT procedure, controlled ovarian hyperstimulation and egg retrieval are performed.  Next, intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI = injection of sperm into the cytoplasm of an egg to achieve artificial fertilization in cases of severe male factor infertility) is performed.  After confirming fertilization the next morning, a laparoscopy is performed and several day-1 embryos (zygotes) are transferred into the fallopian tubes (typically 1-2 zygotes per tube).
