Gamete intrafallopian transfer (GIFT) is a highly specialized form of ART involving laparoscopic transfer of eggs and sperm into the fallopian tubes

Gamete Intrafallopian Transfer (GIFT)

In a GIFT procedure, patients first undergo standard controlled ovarian hyperstimulation (COH = ovarian stimulation with injectable hormones to stimulate the growth of multiple eggs) followed by egg retrieval. Immediately after the retrieval of eggs, a laparoscopy is performed and several eggs, mixed with sperm, are transferred into each fallopian tube (typically about 2 eggs/tube). The laparoscopy lasts about 15-20 minutes. Patients spend 30 minutes in the recovery room and than go home.
